Although it's the most natural response, to become an active participant in some poor soul's compulsion to be disruptive is simply providing gratification to the source of the compulsion; no one in control of themselves is a jirk of their own volition. (This can, arguably, be extended to criminal activity).
The seeds are planted early in life, nurtured by social circumstances, and hardened by the response engendered.
The individual is at the mercy of a merciless compulsion.
To engage in combat with an individual under such compulsion benefits no one, least of all the target.
Talking to the person as though they were the scencient being they are supposed to be can aid in helping them realize who they are.
Playing into their compulsion only reinforces it.
